 Boisali Biswas |
"I believe a work of art bears the stamp of individuality and the national bearing of its creator when it springs from self, devoid of pretensions."
Boisali Biswas' art is an example of the beauty of cultural diversity as it is expressed in contemporary designs with traditional folk art influences. As a native of Calcutta, India, Biswas holds dear the traditional folk art and culture of India. Yet she is an adventuresome woman in her life and in her art.
After earning her undergraduate degree in Textile Arts from Visva-Bharati, the Indian university established by the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Boisali Biswas followed her husband to the US where earned her Master of Fine Arts. She delights in nurturing her childrens' artistic inclinations, from fine arts to western musical instruments to Indian classical dance and vocals.
Today, Biswas creates one-of-a-kind delicately hand-painted silk scarves in gorgeous colors ranging from brilliant to subdued. Her original fiber wall art in woven hand-painted paper and cotton yarns melds traditional folk art influences including Indian, Mexican and Aboringinal, with contemporary design. She says her "primary goal remains to enhance the integration of Indian flavor into contemporary fiber arts." Global and generational integration. Art with the karma of positive energy.
