Patrick Fetty, Wood and Metal Sculptor |
"I would like for my art to be enjoyed for its beauty and design." Patrick Fetty
A Patrick Fetty wood and metal nature sculpture is large. Not a trinket. It is large not only in size, but also in vision and expertise.
"High Mountain Beauty." "Humble." "Well Now Does It Really Matter?" These are not just random names or rhetorical questions that Patrick Fetty has chosen for his modern fine art sculptures, expertly crafted from gorgeous American Black Walnut and American Black Cherry woods. These are expressions from the heart of the sculptor.
"Moss Mountain" is not only the name of a Fetty nature sculpture, but also the name of the mountain where Patrick Fetty lives with his family and practices his craft. He lives "about half way up" his West Virginia mountain on an isolated 104 acre farm, where he and his wife Phyllis have nurtured their four children since the early 1970's. Isolated, perhaps, depending on how you define isolation. The Fetty family is deeply connected to the natural beauty of their wooded land and with their neighbors. Inspirational, yes.
Fetty's work in contemporary fine wood and metal sculpture brings the glory of nature into your home. But he accomplishes much more. His contemporary wood and metal sculptures are refreshing images of the familiar. Given that modernism is a "trend of thought which affirms the power of human beings to make, improve and reshape their built and designed environment," Fetty's sculptures reference a fresh take on the beauty of nature's simplicity.
